I am a Consultant Physician Endocrinology & Diabetes with 37 years working experience in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetes, of them, 31 years post-MS and 20 years post MD. I am also a member of both â€œEgypt society for friends of diabetic patientsâ€ and â€œEgypt society of obesity surgeonsâ€ (founder Member). I graduated in 1979 from Alexandria University Medical School in Egypt with a bachelorâ€™s degree in Medicine and Surgery, after I finished a one-year period as an
intern. My residency was for 4 years at Ras El Tin General Hospital, Alexandria. I received my Masterâ€™s degree in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology from Alexandria University, November 1985.Thesis Title: â€œEffect of calcium channel blockers on metabolic and hemodynamic changes of hyperthyroidism (Degree of Thesis Grade: 100%). I have finished my high medical training by working at Alexandria University Hospitals for 5 years and for a year in Endocrinology consultant clinic at Gamal Abdul Nasser Insurance Hospital being trained by Prof. Dr/ Gamal El-Din Hanno, MD, FRCP, professor and head of Endocrinology Department, Alexandria University, and one of international Endocrinologists at that time. I received the Medical Doctor Degree in Internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Alexandria University, August 1996. Thesis Title: â€œStudies on the role of hormonal and chemical changes in the pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathyâ€. My Major: â€œEndocrinology and Diabetesâ€.
I worked as a consultant and head of Internal Medicine and Endocrinology Department at National Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Cairo, for about 2 years, where I was a member of the committee for studying and the establishment of a new Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes. I established the first clinic of Endocrinology at this institute in May 1998; it is a referral center in Egypt right now. In the meantime I worked as a visitor consultant at National Institute of Hearing and Speech to contribute in scientific
researches in the relationship between DM and hearing loss, and also a visitor consultant at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital, where I established and developed the Obesity Clinic. I have been promoted to work at Ahmed Maher Teaching Hospital, the biggest Teaching Hospital in Egypt, from October 1999 until today. There, I established â€œEndocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes unitâ€, working as a head of the unit, in addition to my activities in the Obesity and Internal Medicine Departments.
I was a medical educator and trainer for the Egyptian board doctors in Internal Medicine. I worked at two of the biggest hospitals in the Gulf area, 'Dr. Fakhry Hospital' in Al Khobar, and 'Dallah Hospital' in Riyadh. At Dr. Fakhry Hospital, I presented two protocols for establishment of Obesity Clinic and Diabetic Foot Clinic, to be the first in Eastern Province. I did many types of research in my field. Indeed, I attended many conferences in different Arabian and European countries and I was a speaker in a few of them. I was working at Al Salam International Hospital in Kuwait, the biggest private Hospital in Kuwait, as a Consultant Physician Endocrinology & Diabetes. I am working now at International Clinic since June 2015.
