Georgy Pavlovich Georgiev was born on February 4, 1933 in Leningrad. He was graduated from the 1st Moscow Medical Institute. I.M.Sechenov (1956). He was a senior laboratory assistant (1956-1957), junior researcher (1957-1961), senior researcher (1961-1963) at the Institute of Animal Morphology named after V.I. A.H. Severtsov Academy of Sciences of the USSR and head of the Laboratory of Nucleic Acid Biosynthesis, Institute of Molecular Biology. V.A. Engelhardt of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1963-1990). He was the Organizing Director (1990), then Director and Head. Department of Cancer Molecular Genetics, Institute of Gene Biology, Russian Academy of Sciences from 1990 to 2006.He is currently an advisor to the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 1959 he defended his candidate and in 1962 - his doctoral dissertation, since 1968 - a professor. Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences since 1970 in the Department of Biochemistry, Biophysics and Chemistry of Physiologically Active Compounds, Academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences (hereinafter RAS) since 1987 in the same Department (later - the Department of Biological Sciences). From 1976 to 2007 he was a member of the Bureau of the Department of Biological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2007, member of the Bureau of the Department of Nanotechnology and Information Technologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
